I am loving reading from The Message each day for a fresh perspective on the Scriptures. In Ephesians 6:10-18 (awesome passage in The Message!) Paul is talking about the spiritual weapons God gives us. He says, “…And put them to use…” (vs. 13a). In vs 13-18 he gets more specific as to what those weapons are, then says, “Learn how to apply them.” It’s not enough to have knowledge or weapons; what we’ve been given has to be used. It would be like needing to mow the yard and getting on your hands and knees with a pair of scissors to get the job done when there is a brand new riding mower with a full tank of gas in the shed just waiting to be used. It’s nice to have the mower, but wise to use it. What God has given us is awesome, but His weapons are useless to us if we leave them in the shed. We need to get them out and use them. It’s not enough to know about truth, for example. I need to walk in truth. I need to choose to be truthful in everything I say and do.
