Psalm 91:1-2
Psalm 91 is an incredible chapter but it can easily be misunderstood. The promises are not just automatic to every reader. They are conditional. The first two verses must be purposely put in place. Then God will fulfill the rest of the chapter. I have verses 1 and 2 here from the New International Reader’s Version. Of all the translations I read, I loved this the most for its direct simplicity. (See http://www.biblegateway.com for more versions.)
Psalm 91:1-2 from the New International Reader’s Version (NIRV)
The person who rests in the shadow of the Most High God will be kept safe by the Mighty One.
I will say about the Lord, “He is my place of safety.
He is like a fort to me. He is my God. I trust in him.”
