burned stone

June 30, 2013

I Kings 18 is one of my favorite chapters. No matter how many times I read it I always have the same response: Wow!! Verse 38 says along w/ the wood, sacrifice, and water, that God’s fire even burned the stones. In my brief online research about how stones can burn I found that yes they can. That’s what lava is, burned stone. One answer was that rock burns at temperatures of 3100 degrees and higher. Another wow! In Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary for verses 21-40 he says, “…the event encourages all God’s witnesses and advocates never to fear the face of man…” Be encouraged. Our God can burn up anything He wishes, even something as hard as rock. That includes a hardened heart.
