unshaken

July 17, 2013

“When he (Ahab) saw Elijah, he said to him, ‘Is that you, you troubler of Israel?’

‘I have not made trouble for Israel,’ Elijah replied. ‘But you and your father’s family have. You have abandoned the Lord’s commands and have followed the Baals.” I Kings 18: 16-18 NIV

Elijah doesn’t skip a beat. He is unshaken by King Ahab’s accusation. He knows the truth. Elijah has been given God’s eyes in the matter and he will not be swayed. The cause of the drought is the sin of Israel and their worship of idols. The ones responsible for Israel ‘s unfaithfulness to God are Ahab and his family. They introduced Baal and Asherah to the people and made it the new cool thing to worship false gods.

Am I unshaken when I am falsely accused? Am I firmly grounded in who I am? Am I secure with the truth? To know a counterfeit bill I have to study what the real one looks like. That’s what the Treasury Department does. I look at the Truth (God) and what He has said (the Bible) to discover how my thinking needs to change about everything. I want to see through God’s glasses so I can accurately see the big picture and the tiny details of life. Unless you’re a hermit in a cave you’re aware that things in the world are more unstable than ever. I want to have my eyes on the One Who is not rattled as He sits on His throne. I need to know the truth. I need to be stable in my view of how things really are. I need to see through His eyes. When that happens I will be unshaken.
