God is at Peace!

August 6, 2013

John 14:27 says, “Peace I leave with you; My [own] peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.]” (Amplified). That says it all. The only thing I want to highlight is what I saw as I read this. He is saying He is giving us His peace. In fact, 42 of the English versions of the Bible that are on http://www.biblegateway.com say it that way. Two versions that word it a different way are: “… the kind of peace that only I can give.” (CEV) and “…the peace which I will give you is mine to give;…” (KNOX).

So what does God’s peace look like? Even in the crazy, ever-changing world we live in right now with terrorist threats, unexpected killings and bizarre events, the Ruler of the universe sits unfazed, securely on His throne. He’s not sitting on the edge of the seat wringing His hands worrying about what He’s going to do. He’s at peace. That’s the kind of peace He gives to us.

How do I get that peace? The verse that has ministered to me so very much in the last several weeks is Psalm 55:22 from the Amplified Bible. “Cast your burden on the Lord [releasing the weight of it] and He will sustain you. He will never allow the [consistently] righteous to be moved–made to slip, fall, or fail.” Don’t cast it like a fisherman, only to reel it back in. Throw it as hard as you can like an outfielder trying to get someone out at home plate. If He wants us to cast it then we were never meant to have it in the first place. He also is more than able to catch what we cast and expertly handle it from that point on.

  1. Peace also come from knowing the good news of Jesus Christ (Ephesians 6:15)

  2. You’ve got that right! I agree totally!
