He is enough

September 1, 2016

“When the time comes, then, that you see the ‘abomination of desolation’ prophesied by Daniel ‘standing in the sacred place’—the reader should note this—then is the time for those in Judea to escape to the hills. A man on his house-top must not waste time going into his house to collect anything; a man at work in the fields must not go back home to fetch his clothes,” – Matthew 24:15-18, J. B. Phillips Translation*

Regarding this verse I am sure there are as many interpretations of that as there are people in the world.  I do not claim to be a theologian.  The only reason I began this blog was in obedience to what God was putting on my heart.  I said all that to clarify what I believe He showed me in reference to Matthew 24:18.  When the people living in Judea see the signs prophesied in Daniel, they should run to the hills to escape.  The Lord makes it even more clear that they are not to go back to their house or tent and grab anything.  Then He is more specific that they are not to even run back for their cloak (outer garment which could double as a blanket).  One thing I see clearly in this is that God is telling them they won’t need those physical provisions, because He is enough; He is all they will need.

In case you’re thinking, “That’s nice, but I don’t plan on going to Judea, so what does this have to do with me?” I want to let you know it is also relevant to us today.  Honestly, God is really all we need even when the food in the cupboard is dwindling and there is no prospect of money coming in.  He will provide.  Ask Him for what you need.  ” And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus,” – Philippians 4:19, English Standard Version (emphasis mine).

*The verses referred to in in Matthew 24:15-18 are Daniel 9:27; 11:31; 12:11.
