the ultimate covering

October 27, 2016

Then the Lord said, ‘There is a place near me where you may stand on a rock.  When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by.  Then I will remove my hand and you will see my back; but my face must not be seen.’” Exodus 33:21-23, New International Version, (emphasis mine).

Yes, I am back on track studying the topic of covering, and it has many more meanings than I thought possible.  The verses you just read tell about the most incredible covering.  God covered Moses with His own hand to protect him from death.  You see, God had just told him, “‘But you can’t see my face,’ he said. ‘No one can see me and stay alive.’” (Exodus 33:20, New International Readers Version).  Chew on that today and see if it doesn’t put you in awe.  It’s one thing for Him to cover us with His presence (that alone is awesome) but to be covered with His own hand…….!  I’m left totally speechless.
